Here is what most people don't understand: when it comes to making your own rap beats you need to think repetition. Lay down your kick drums and your snare drums to of course match the recording (when you download the program you will know exactly the difference) first. Then add a melody to be the main melody. Then you want to follow that melody with a sound effect. Try something crazy like rain drops or any weird sound that will offset the melody and be more of just something cool to fill the background. Then just add or take away more instrumentation as you see fit.
